Despite massive amounts of data available at a producer's fingertips from multiple farm systems, it is still hard to understand where data overlaps in order to make efficient business decisions. Consider how the type, and quantity, of feed consumed impacts milk production as well as how both of these factor together assist in regulating reproduction.
Let’s begin with looking at herd demographics on the platform to see how they interact with other data breakouts. In Graph 1 we can see the reproductive breakout in the whole herd. Taking it a step further, the option to view the herd through a pen level can be garnered.
Specifically, in Graph 2, pens 8 and 9 contain most of this farm's fresh and early lactation cows, these being the most important for impacting the bulk tank. On the pen level, you can see how composition can factor into current and future success in the bulk tank and through conception with relation to feed intake.

With nTELL’s ability to overlay data it means being able to quickly go from looking at the reproduction status breakdown on a pen level and compare that to how efficient the cows are being on a feed basis. This provides valuable insights into how each pen's makeup correlates with feed intake.
In general, a high producing cow will consume twice as much as one that is late lactation and pregnant or even dry. Thus, when juxtaposing Graphs 2 and 3, the pens with greater fresh cows (8 and 9) vs. ones that are dry or even later lactation (12, 13 and 14), there is a story that is being told. When you reference Graph 3, comparing pens 12, 13, 14 to the fresh cows, it is evident to see the significant difference in DMI, which backs up the story of the composition of those pens.
Dynamic views such as these show the scope of what nTELL offers with unique frameworks of visualizing a herds status and its implication. Being able to better understand what the scope of the current herd looks like can best help one prepare and plan for the future.
